Barolo 'Marcenasco' Renato Ratti 2022
Perfect to give as a giftThe Barolo "Marcenasco" is a great expression of the Langhe, a historic and prestigious label obtained from the homonymous cru, aged in oak barrels for 24 months. It has an aristocratic, elegant, and very energetic character, with aromas of fruit, oriental spices, and licorice, and a robust, articulated, tannic, and very fresh sip. Capable of evolving for decades
The Barolo “Marcenasco” from the Renato Ratti winery is a red wine of great finesse, grace, and expressive elegance produced in the municipality of La Morra from a single cru, the Marcenasco vineyard. This label, which represents the very first attempt to vinify a Barolo from a single parcel, attempted in 1965 by Renato Ratti and never tried before in Langa, is made from pure Nebbiolo grapes. The vines, situated at an altitude exceeding 400 meters, are trained in guyot on south-east facing soils characterized by the so-called Sant’Agata marls mixed with fine sands and clays. The winery, a famous and renowned name that, thanks to its founder Renato Ratti, has contributed to making the history of this wonderful territory, is located in the Annunziata district of La Morra, and is today the owner of 38 hectares expertly managed by his son Pietro.
The “Marcenasco” Barolo by Renato Ratti is made from grapes harvested exclusively by hand in the early weeks of October. The clusters, carefully selected already in the vineyard, are then taken to the winery for destemming and soft pressing of the berries and subsequent alcoholic fermentation, which takes place in stainless steel containers at a controlled temperature not exceeding 30 °C, with maceration on the skins for about 7-10 days. The wine is then racked and transferred to oak barrels where, towards the beginning of November, it undergoes malolactic fermentation, after which it remains in aging for about 24 months in large oak barrels of 25 and 50 hectoliters, before being bottled.
The “Marcenasco” presents itself to the eye with a light ruby red color, tending towards garnet. On the nose, aromas of ripe red fruit appear, including cherry, floral notes of rose, underbrush notes, spicy hints of licorice and tobacco, and oriental spices with brief balsamic hints. On the palate, it is full, muscular, intense, and generous with a solid and robust tannin and an elegant freshness that makes the sip extremely pleasant. This “Marcenasco” by Renato Ratti is a Barolo of great class that reflects tradition and captivates with its energy.
