Barolo 'Monvigliero' Luigi Einaudi 2020
Luigi Einaudi's Barolo "Monvigliero" is a red of great caliber, produced with grapes harvested from the main cru of the Verduno area. On the nose there are intriguing hints of flowers and red fruits, as well as sweet spices and typical balsamic hints reminiscent of mint. In the mouth, it reveals a structure of great importance, as well as warmth and great persistence. A perfect wine to accompany second courses of fine meat, but also excellent to sip alone, in meditation, after leaving it in the cellar for a few years
Poderi Luigi Einaudi Barolo ‘Monvigliero’ represents a label of utmost prestige and elegance that originates from the most renowned cru of the municipality of Verduno. This Barolo was produced for the first time with the 2018 vintage following the purchase the previous year by the Einaudi family of a vineyard within the MGA of Monvigliero. For the illustration of the label, the artist Stefano Arienti was called upon, who wanted to pay homage to the 16th-century painter Giulio Romano with his series of works titled “Horses on Columns”.
‘Monvigliero’ Barolo Poderi Luigi Einaudi is made exclusively with Nebbiolo grapes grown in soils rich in limestone and gypsum within the MGA of Monvigliero. Once the grapes have reached full ripeness, harvesting takes place, followed by the crushing of the bunches in concrete tanks where alcoholic fermentation is accompanied by prolonged maceration on the skins. Once the fermentation process is completed, the mass is transferred into a combination of large barrels and tonneau for aging of 30-38 months that precedes bottling and further resting in glass before final marketing.
In the glass, the Barolo ‘Monvigliero’ from Poderi Luigi Einaudi showcases a bright garnet red robe with orange reflections. The olfactory profile is painted with broad and elegant aromas of cherry, raspberry, violet, mint, tobacco, and cocoa, adorned with mineral notes. The taste is warm and clear, fresh and flavorful, with rough and perfectly integrated tannins that lead to a very persistent finish on the olfactory perceptions. By virtue of its prestige and remarkable structure, this Barolo needs to be paired with succulent main courses, even better if from the Piedmontese tradition like braised beef in Barolo.
