Barolo Riserva 'San Bernardo' Palladino 2016
The Barolo Riserva San Bernardo by Palladino is a noble expression of Langa, obtained from grapes from the vineyard of the same name as Serralunga d'Alba. Dressed in an elegant bright garnet red, it releases intense aromas of rosemary and bitter orange, surrounded by aromas of ripe red fruit and rocky scents. On the palate it reveals a vigorous tannin, of great savouriness and with a prolonged end of licorice and balsamic herbs.
The Barolo Riserva “San Bernardo” from the Palladino winery is a complex and austere red wine that originates from the San Bernardo vineyard in Serralunga d’Alba, in the province of Cuneo. It is made from pure Nebbiolo grapes sourced from vines cultivated using the traditional guyot method and located on hills with east and southeast exposure at an altitude of about 330-390 meters. The soils in this area of Langa are characterized by Elvezian origin soils, rich in very compact brown-gray marls that give rise to very structured Barolos suitable for long aging. The winery is a family-run business, now in its second generation, owning about 11 hectares of vineyards managed according to a very simple philosophy, focused on the bond with tradition, passion, and respect for the terroir.
The “San Bernardo” Barolo Riserva is produced with carefully selected grapes that are hand-harvested generally in the first weeks of October. The clusters are then brought to the winery, destemmed, and subjected to alcoholic fermentation, with long macerations,in stainless steel containers at controlled temperature. At the end of alcoholic fermentation, the wine is racked, after which it remains in aging for at least 36 months in large Slavonian oak barrels, before being bottled and maturing for a few more years in the bottle before being marketed.
The Barolo "San Bernardo" Riserva by Palladino presents itself with an intense and bright garnet red color. On the nose, aromas of ripe red fruit appear, including cherry and currant, citrus notes of bitter orange, floral hints of rose and aromatic herbs, including rosemary, finishing with spicy notes of vanilla, licorice, tobacco, and cloves, as well as rocky and balsamic mineral hints. On the palate, it is vigorous, rich, and intense, characterized by a dense tannic structure and an aromatic finish of licorice and medicinal herbs. This Barolo from the Palladino winery is a noble expression of Langa produced only in the best vintages.
