Cannonau Riserva 'Carnevale' Sedilesu 2021
Artisanal
Organic and biodynamicThe Cannonau Reserve "Carnevale" Sedilesu is the only red from the winery obtained through the use of barrique. On the nose, it is spicy, with notes of graphite, red fruit in jam. It has a beautiful consistency on the palate, with a crunchy, warm, intense sip, long persistence, and elegant tannins.
The Cannonau Riserva "Carnevale" from the Sardinian winery Sedilesu is produced in the heart of Barbagia. It represents a fairly modern version of this historic grape variety, traditionally grown in almost all the countries that face the Mediterranean. It is a Cannonau that, thanks to aging in barrique, takes on a rather international face while preserving the characteristic traits of its terroir.
The "Carnevale" is a Cannonau Riserva that originates in Mamoiada, one of the most vocated areas for the cultivation of Cannonau. The vineyards are located at an altitude between 600 and 800 meters above sea level and can benefit from a cool climate, with significant temperature variations between day and night. The soils have been formed from the disintegration of ancient granite rocks and are very rich in minerals. These particular pedoclimatic conditions allow for the production of wines with great balance between freshness and alcohol content, which is always quite high in wines made from the Grenache grape, known in Sardinia as Cannonau. The vines are raised in bush training with low yields, below 40 quintals per hectare. Fermentation is carried out spontaneously, using only indigenous yeasts and with a maceration on the skins of about 20-25 days. The wine rests for 14-16 months in 225-liter barriques and is bottled without filtration. Before being released for sale, it ages for 6 months in the Sedilesu winery.
The Cannonau "Carnevale" is a reserve that concentrates in a glass all the best characteristics of the splendid terroir of Mamoiada, dressing them with a less traditional and more modern and international taste profile. The wine has an intense ruby red color, with garnet reflections. On the nose, it opens with aromas of aromatic herbs from the Mediterranean scrub, soft spices, hints of graphite, red fruit, and jam. The palate is warm, soft, and rich, with juicy and dense fruit. The tannins are delicate and elegant, and the finish is harmonious, well balanced by a pleasant freshness.
