Carmenere Tenuta San Leonardo 2020
The Carmenere from San Leonardo is a very elegant red wine with a pleasantly herbaceous character and an international soul. It is vinified in cement tanks and aged for up to 24 months in barrique. The aromas evoke green pepper, balsamic herbs, pepper, and berries. On the palate, it is full-bodied, intense, slightly herbaceous, and persistent.
The Carmenère from Tenuta San Leonardo is one of the diamonds of what we can define as a diadem when we refer to the range of wines from the winery that takes its name from the locality near Trento. The grapes of Carmenère come from some of the oldest vineyards of the Estate that take root in predominantly sandy soils at an altitude that ranges between 150 and 200 meters above sea level. Introduced at the end of the 1800s, Carmenère was initially called and mistaken for Cabernet Franc, leading to a temporary and presumed disappearance of this grape variety, which was however re-identified during the 1980s thanks to the studies of Professor Scienza.
Tenuta San Leonardo Carmenère is a wine that today, thanks to careful selections and particular care, still manages to give a precise and unmistakable identity to every red wine in which it is included. A grape variety that is cultivated on double pergola and that begins to be harvested during the month of October, a period in which the fruits reach the perfect ripening. Inside the winery, fermentation is awaited, which takes place in cement tanks undergoing constant pump-overs by expert cellar workers, subsequently the wine rests for 18 to 24 months in barriques of first, second, and third passage. The process concludes with a bottle aging of at least 3 years before being released on the market.
Carmenère Tenuta San Leonardo colors the glass with a ruby red surrounded by violet reflections. Brought to the nose, all the spontaneity and strength of the grape variety emerges thanks to the vegetal aromas that bring to mind green pepper, further enriched by notes of blackberries, wild strawberries, and balsamic nuances with peppery tones. On the palate, the body and warmth conveyed by this wonderful wine captivate the taste buds, making the sip unforgettable and intriguingly slightly sweet. With a persistent drink, the Carmenère from Tenuta San Leonardo is a wine that, if waited for, can truly give intense emotions due to its ability to express itself and evolve over time. A wine that, paired with hearty dishes of strong structure, showcases all that brilliance to which only the brightest stars in the firmament can aspire.
