Chardonnay 'Scapulin' Giuseppe Cortese 2021

  The “Scapulin” Giuseppe Cortese is a classic example of Chardonnay produced in the heart of the Langhe. The historic wine estate Giuseppe Cortese is located in Barbaresco and overlooks the renowned cru Rabajà. A family-run business founded by Giuseppe, who still guides the winemaking phases with his wisdom, now carried on with the same care and ancient knowledge by his children Pier Carlo and Tiziana. With the new generation, they have reached the current 8 hectares of property, and the winemaking cellar has been expanded and enriched, but the production philosophy has remained the same: to commit to producing typical wines linked to the territory.

The Chardonnay grapes of “Scapulin” come from the Trifolera vineyard, the first of the three ridges that descend from the Tre Stelle side towards Martinenga. The rows are exposed to the southwest at an altitude of 320 meters on limestone soils, typical of the area. During winemaking, this Chardonnay ferments and matures for 10 months in new and first passage wooden barrels.passage of 225 liters capacity. Before being marketed, it will rest for another 6 months in the bottle to stabilize optimally and present itself in its best form when opened.

The Chardonnay "Scapulin" by Giuseppe Cortese is a mineral, soft, and persistent expression of the Langa terroir from which it comes. In the glass, it presents a clear straw yellow color with golden hues. The pleasantly oaky notes of vanilla and dried fruit that it offers to the nose are linked to the passage in new wooden barriques and are overall perfectly harmonized with the underlying freshness. The sip is full, rich, and enveloping, perfect when paired with a mixed cheese platter that it will accompany with energy and softness.
