D'Alceo Castello dei Rampolla 2020
Rare wines"D'Alceo" is a red wine of great importance, a Supertuscan made from Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, aged for 18 months in barrique. On the nose, a rich aromatic spectrum emerges, evoking cherries, aromatic herbs, and sweet spices. On the palate, it reveals volume and structure, but also good freshness and excellent drinkability.
The “D’Alceo” from Castello dei Rampolla is a red structured and intense. It is the classic Supertuscan made with Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, inspired by the models of the famous Bordeaux wines. The desire to produce a red with an international face is also confirmed by the choice of a long aging period in barrique, which helps to bestow mature and complex evolving notes. Thanks to the mild climate of Tuscany, the Bordeaux grapes reach a perfect degree of ripeness, expressing a rich fruit with a enveloping and Mediterranean profile.
The red “D’Alceo” is produced in the wonderful hilly territory of the “Conca d’Oro” valley, south of Panzano in Chianti. It is here that the historic estate of Castello dei Rampolla stands, which includes 40 hectares of vineyard planted on precious limestone soils rich in galestro. A soil and a climate that, thanks to the intuition of the famous oenologist Giacomo Tachis, have proven excellent not only for Sangiovese but also for Bordeaux varieties and in particular for a difficult grape like the Petit Verdot, which in other areas struggles to reach full and complete ripeness. The vines of Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot have the particularity of being trained as bush vines, in a biodynamic farming regime. The fermentations are conducted in concrete tanks with only indigenous yeasts. The wine rests for 18 months in oak barriques and ages for another 30 months in bottle.
The wine “D’Alceo” produced by the Tuscan winery Castello dei Rampolla is a prestigious red, to be enjoyed in the company of enthusiasts and experts during a special evening. It represents the perfect combination of noble Bordeaux grapes and the splendid terroir of Chianti, which gives an elegant wine with a territorial profile. The color is a rather dark and dense ruby red. On the nose, it is intense with broad aromas of ripe cherry, small dark berries, hints of underbrush, licorice, and spices. On the palate, it has remarkable structure and complexity, with a dense tannic texture, a balanced, fresh, and very persistent finish.
