Gin Old Tom 'Berto' Antica Distilleria Quaglia
"Berto" is a very fragrant and highly refined Gin Old Tom, perfect for making various cocktails. It spreads aromas of elderberry, juniper and floral fragrances, seasoned with sweet notes of vanilla and chocolate. The sip is dry, velvety and soft, with good persistence
The Old Tom Gin “Berto”, produced by Antica Distilleria Quaglia, is a very interesting label, inspired by a type of distillate that became popular in England especially during the Victorian era. Alongside the dry, balsamic, and citrusy London Dry Gin, a new, softer, and sweeter version has emerged, created to cater to an audience looking for distillates with a more seductive and less austere profile. The sweetness of Old Tom Gin comes from a selection of botanicals and spices with sweeter notes, such as vanilla or licorice, as well as the addition of cane sugar or sugar syrup. Excellent when enjoyed neat, it is perfect for making cocktails with tropical fruit juices.
“Berto” is an artisanal Old Tom Gin, produced in Piemonte. Antica Distilleria Quaglia is based in Castelnuovo Don Bosco and has been producing liqueurs and distillates since the 1800s, in line with the great tradition of the Asti territory. Its undisputed success is due to its ability to innovate and follow new market trends while remaining faithful to the best traditions. The Old Tom perfectly represents the the philosophy of the distillery. It is the result of an in-depth knowledge of the historical models of great Gins and their original recipes. Production begins with a rigorous selection of raw materials, starting with the botanicals, which include, among others: juniper, absinthe, elderflower, vanilla, and rose petals. The infusions are carried out with patient care, as are all the distillation processes.
The Old Tom Gin “Berto” from Antica Distilleria Quaglia appears in the glass absolutely transparent and crystal clear, with a slight and delicate shade of antique pink that enhances its face. On the nose, it is intense and rich, with a bouquet characterized by floral aromas of dried rose petals, elderflower, citrus peels, grapefruit, lime, notes of vanilla, and soft oriental spices, sensations of dark chocolate, bitter cocoa, and freshly roasted coffee, on a fragrant balsamic background of medicinal herbs and fragrant juniper berries. The entry on the palate is gentle, soft, and seductive, with a sip that is aromatically very intense and rich, masterfully blending citrus, balsamic, and spicy notes. The finish is long, harmonious, and persistent, with a pleasantly fresh finish.
