Lagrein Franz Haas 2024

The Lagrein bears the signature of the Franz Haas winery, which produces it from the homonymous indigenous grape variety of Alto Adige, which has fortunately come back into vogue in recent years. The sunny position of the vineyards in Egna favors the ripening of each individual bunch, which therefore arrives at harvest fully ripe. And the result is felt, thanks to a product with a wide and concentrated olfactory range, in which the sip seduces with a strong character that relies on lively and delicate tannins at the same time. A bottle that can be enjoyed young, but which is also capable of evolving positively for the next 3-4 years.

This red wine Lagrein comes from sunny vineyards, facing south and southwest, located about 220-250 meters above sea level. We find ourselves on an alluvial soil, with a high percentage of gravel, an ideal habitat for the growth of the Lagrein grape variety. The bunches, after careful selection in the vineyard carried out by the Franz Haas team, are gently destemmed, and the berries are pressed. The must ferments in open tanks, and to avoid the excessive extraction of tannins, the pump-overs and punch downs are limited. The wine is then racked into tonneau where malolactic fermentation takes place and where it rests for 10-12 months.

The Lagrein produced by the Franz Haas winery presents itself visually with an intense and concentrated ruby red color. The bouquet of sensations that develop on the nose recalls broad notes of red fruit, enriched by more floral touches and herbaceous and spicy nuances. On the palate, it is full-bodied, soft and enveloping thanks to a silky sip, where the tannic structure is indeed felt, but always with harmony and refinement. A bottle with a strong personality, which pairs perfectly with flavorful dishes and preparations.
