Montemarino Cascina degli Ulivi - Bellotti 2021
The Montemarino by Cascina degli Ulivi is a white wine made from grapes of old vines worked in biodynamic and macerated for 3 days on the skins. On the nose it is generous, with notes of ripe fruit, hazelnut and caramel, with scents of flint. On the palate it is elegant, markedly mineral and savory, fresh and consistent. Wine made with old style artisanal methods, Triple A
The Montemarino from Cascina degli Ulivi - Bellotti is a white wine with a bold personality, a legacy of one of the winemakers who made the history of artisanal wine. If it is true that oenology and agriculture are an inseparable pair, the figure of Stefano Bellotti has enriched both fields thanks to a far-sighted and pioneering vision. Among the first convinced supporters of biodynamics, having adopted it in the mid-80s, Stefano has shown the way to new generations of winemakers, even though he was initially considered visionary and even esoteric. A later vindication for Stefano, given that biodynamics is now adopted by some of the most famous wineries in the world, although his role has not been limited to this but also to enhancing a territory often mistreated by impersonal productions, giving life to wines capable of virtuously challenging time. A great cultural legacy that cannot be wasted.
The Montemarino white comes from vineyards over 60 years old that rest on limestone soils. In the vineyard, work has always been meticulous and attentive, maintaining very low yields and respecting the natural balance of the territory, following the principles of biodynamics and intervening (only if necessary) with natural preparations, copper, and a bit of sulfur. In the cellar, spontaneous alcoholic fermentation continues with a brief maceration on the skins. Finally, the wine does not undergo any addition of sulfur dioxide.
The Montemarino wine presents itself in the glass with an intense straw-yellow color that shifts towards golden. A complex and multifaceted nose, expressing itself with the overwhelming graduality of great artisanal wines, revealing notes of ripe fruit, hazelnut, caramel, and saline bursts in succession. The sip is splendid, rhythmic, and vital but at the same time has a rich and seductive texture, elongated by a remarkable saline push. An indispensable icon of Italian wine.
