Nebbiolo is one of the hallmarks of the La Spinetta winery, showcasing all the elegance and class of a talented grape interpreted in a modern way. A dynamic, unstoppable family, constantly evolving: this phrase could summarize the story of the Rivetti brothers, who have created several prestigious realities including an estate in Toscana, the acquisition of a sparkling wine house, in addition to nurturing the growth of what is now a consolidated and successful winery in Piemonte. About 100 hectares of vineyard, where local indigenous grape varieties such as Barbera, Nebbiolo, and Moscato are enhanced and cultivated with very limited use of chemicals. The winery's choice is to adopt very low yields and full ripening, in order to obtain liquids of greater thickness and concentration.
The Nebbiolo La Spinetta wine comes from grapes located near Neive, a major enclave of Barbaresco. In the vineyard, sustainable agriculture is practiced, therefore no pesticides or herbicides are used in full respect of the vine. The plants, which rest on limestone soils, are cultivated at about 270 meters above sea level with a south-facing exposure. After the harvest, which takes place around mid-October, the best bunches are brought to the winery for alcoholic fermentation, which lasts for 7-8 days in temperature-controlled rotofermenters. After the malolactic fermentation in small barrels, the aging continues for 12 months in second-passage French oak barriques. After a 2-month rest in steel, the wine is bottled and allowed to rest in glass for about a year before being released for sale. The liquid is neither filtered nor clarified, so as not to lose any of its wide aromatic-tasting spectrum.
The red wine La Spinetta Nebbiolo presents itself in the glass with a lively ruby color. The nose immediately strikes with the exuberance of its fruity component, rich and concentrated, with hints of plums, berry jam, and interspersed with typical floral notes from the Langhe such as dog rose. The sip, material and cohesive, is pure velvet, caressing the palate thanks to well-crafted tannins, but is promptly balanced by the fresh component.and plump that Nebbiolo brings. A tasting that does not leave one indifferent, and finishes with a long and balsamic persistence. Delicious and inviting, it testifies to the great skill of the winery in winemaking.
