Rosso di Montalcino Biondi Santi 2023
The Rosso di Montalcino by Biondi Santi is a full-bodied and intense wine, animated by complex evocations of aromatic herbs, flowers, and spices. The taste is harmonious and structured, long and persistent. It is aged for 12 months in large barrels
The Biondi Santi family, owners for generations of the Tenuta Greppo, is a true institution of Montalcino viticulture: the founder Ferruccio Biondi Santi was the first to give value to the pure vinification of Sangiovese, successfully overcoming the difficult period between the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century with the viral outbreaks of oidium, downy mildew, and phylloxera, as well as the outbreak of the First World War, to the extent of being described in 1932 by an interministerial commission tasked with studying the territory of Montalcino as the actual inventor of Brunello. His son Tancredi continued the work of enhancing full-bodied red wines based on Sangiovese, being called upon for consulting by producers from all over Italy who were fascinated by the stature of Brunello Biondi Santi.
Today, the tradition of this key wine for the image of Montalcino continues along the historically undertaken quality path, with Franco Biondi Santi committed to enhancing the strict production techniques aimed at highlighting the distinctive typicity of the various expressions of Sangiovese. In the desire to make known the expressive power of the younger vineyards, in addition to the historic lands that give life to the most famous Brunello, Biondi Santi has created the Rosso di Montalcino from the Tenuta Greppo.
Aged for 12 months in traditional Slavonian oak barrels, the Rosso di Montalcino Biondi Santi is a promising "relative" of Brunello, young and juicy, with a straightforward drinkability in the immediate, although capable of producing a noteworthy aromatic evolution over time.
