Appleton Estate is one of the most important and oldest distilleries in all of Jamaica, committed to producing great rums since 1749 from its own sugarcane plantations. The ‘Hearts Collection’ line was recently launched on the market and includes a splendid range of vintage rums that comprise vintages from 1984 to 2003, all bottled between 2020 and 2022.
The production of the Appleton Estate ‘Hearts Collection’ Rum begins with the cultivation of various sugarcane varieties in the Jamaican territory, precisely among the hills of the Nassau Valley, in the heart of the island, between lush forests and imposing mountains. After harvesting the mature plant, the processing takes place through which the sugary molasses is obtained, which is then diluted with water filtered from the limestone rocks of the area. Subsequently the preparation undergoes spontaneous alcoholic fermentation through the action of only indigenous yeasts, followed by the distillation phase of the fermented product through a Forsyth pot still. Once distillation is complete, the precious liquid is placed in American oak barrels for long aging, which can last up to 37 years in the case of the oldest vintage rum, all in the tropical climate of Jamaica.
The Appleton Estate ‘Hearts Collection’ Rum shows a dark amber color tending towards mahogany. On the nose, a complex array of aromas emerges, reminiscent of dried figs, walnut, caramel, cinnamon, vanilla, and fine woods. The taste is bold and enveloping, surprisingly balanced, with an endless finish that evokes the spicy and toasted sensations perceived on the nose.
