Sito Moresco Gaja 2023
The Sito Moresco by Gaja is a red wine made from Nebbiolo, Barbera, and Merlot grapes, which give it elegance, freshness, and softness, respectively. On the nose, fruity notes of small wild red fruits and herbal and vegetal hints are perceived. On the palate, it shows a pleasant finesse, is harmonious, with subtle and balanced tannins on the sip.
The “Sito Moresco” from the Gaja winery is an intense and complex red wine produced in Barbaresco, in the province of Cuneo, in Piemonte. It is obtained from a blend that sees the longevity and complexity of the Nebbiolo grape, which is predominantly present, combined with the pleasant acidity of Barbera and the body of Merlot to create an expression of great harmony and elegance. The vineyards are cultivated using the traditional guyot method on enchanting hills, with exceptional exposures, located at over 300 meters above sea level. The winery, now owner of about 90 hectares of vineyards, is a historic family-run reality that has managed to establish itself in the global wine scene thanks to a constant and unwavering pursuit of quality, renewing traditions and importing new production techniques to keep pace with the times with intelligence and intuition.
The Sito Moresco of Gaja is produced with carefully selected and hand-harvested grapes at the moment of their perfect ripeness. The bunches, brought to the winery, are destemmed and gently pressed to carry out the alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with frequent pump-overs and a maceration on the skins for a few weeks. Subsequently, the wine is racked with pressing of the skins, after which it remains in refinement for at least 12 months in stainless steel containers before being bottled and continuing its maturation in the bottle for a few months before the final release on the market.
The Gaja Sito Moresco presents itself with a beautiful bright ruby red color. On the nose, intense aromas of ripe red fruit and berries appear, including cherry, sour cherry, currant, and raspberry, floral notes of rose and other dried flowers, herbaceous hints, and slightly spicy notes of pepper in the background. On the palate, it is soft, rich, deep, and structured, characterized by a beautiful freshness that makes it pleasant to sip and by a silky and subtle tannic texture. This wine from the Gaja winery is a red of great finesse and beautiful craftsmanship, like all the wines from this great winery.
