Oltremé is an interesting and original Puglian red, produced by a historic Salento winery that was already involved in viticulture in the 1800s. Strong of a long tradition, during the 1980s, Tenute Rubino acquired new vineyards and gave momentum to its activity, committing itself to a valuable and commendable work of enhancing the Puglian native grape varieties in the name of quality.Within this new corporate philosophy, the recovery of the Sussumaniello, an ancient variety that was at risk of disappearing, overshadowed by the commercial success of the more famous and widespread Primitivo and Negroamaro, fits perfectly. The results have vindicated Tenute Rubino, who have been able to bring to the attention of enthusiasts a grape variety that is proving to have the personality and character to produce great wines.
“Oltremé” Susumaniello from the Salento winery Tenute Rubino is a Puglian wine that originates in the countryside of the Brindisi hinterland. The vineyards are planted on calcareous and sandy soils, which have hosted the Sussumaniello for centuries. At the end of the classic red vinification in steel tanks with skin maceration, the wine rests for a few months in steel before being bottled. In the glass, it presents an intense ruby red color, streaked with violet reflections. On the nose, it recalls the aromas of small red berries, cherry, currant, and ripe plum. The sip is balanced and intense, with a soft and well-integrated tannic texture and a pleasantly crunchy fruit. The finish is harmonious and has good taste persistence. It is a label not to be missed for those looking for interesting novelties and love to drink outside the box.
