Teroldego 'Morei' Foradori 2023
The Teroldego "Morei" is a Trentino red wine vinified very slowly in terracotta amphorae with prolonged skin maceration for up to 8 months. The unique production method gives it a pronounced minerality and freshness and a bouquet of black fruits, herbs, and wild spices. On the palate, it is slender, soft, full, and round, with depth and persistence.
The Teroldego “Morei” by Foradori is an absolute reference for its type, as well as one of the expressive peaks achievable from the well-known Trentino grape. In the world of artisanal wine, Elisabetta Foradori's work is equivalent to an icon, as in few other cases the name of a producer is so closely identified with that of her favorite grape, namely Teroldego. An intimate relationship cultivated, it must be said, with dedication, patience, and above all experimentation, because to reach an absolute awareness one must embark on a tortuous path. A family winery that Elisabetta took over in 1984, gradually deciding to abandon the vinification of non-native varieties such as Merlot and Cabernet, to focus on local grapes such as Teroldego, Incrocio Manzoni, and Nosiola. In the mid-2000s, the vineyard was converted to biodynamics, to preserve the vitality and energy of the soils intact. Today, like a passing of the baton, it is her son Emilio who leads the winery under Elisabetta's careful supervision, preserving the seriousness and passion intact.
The “Morei” Foradori is an expression of pure Teroldego coming from a single vineyard that gives its name to the label, located in Mezzolombardo and characterized by an alluvial soil. In the vineyard, the principles of biodynamics are followed, therefore chemical or synthetic substances are banned. In the winery, all alcoholic fermentations occur spontaneously, and in the case of Morei, there is a long maceration on the skins in terracotta amphorae called Tinajas. The liquid then ages in cement tanks.
The Teroldego “Morei” presents itself in the glass with the classic appearance of the grape, dark and compact red. A liquid that reveals itself gradually, but rewards with an authoritative and original profile: the fruit in this case is dark and reminiscent of blackberry or blueberry, also bringing along all that part of underbrush that refers back to the earth. The sip is vital and tasty, and while not focusing on alcoholic power, it manages to be filling thanks to an extract and tannin worthy of a fine wine. Cross-sectional.
