The young and small Sicilian winery Monterosso interprets with dedication the territory of Mount Etna with its oenological excellences. The estate takes its name from the hamlet of Monterosso Etneo, located in Aci Sant'Antonio, a municipality on the southern slope of Mount Etna where the friendship and love for their land led the partners Aurelio Marconi, Giovanni Ferlito, and Gianluca Strano to embark on this adventurous project in 2015. The name Monterosso derives from the appearance of the soils, which are indeed reddish due to the high iron content, a factor that contributes to the peculiarity of the wines produced here.

The Etna estate Monterosso has just 2 hectares of vineyards, entirely dedicated to Nerello Mascalese and Carricante, the preferred grape varieties of this fascinating volcanic territory. The vineyards, managed according to the principles of organic agriculture, boast the presence of centuries-old ungrafted vines, trained in the traditional bush-trained system with chestnut poles on soils of red pozzolana, fine volcanic ash particularly rich in iron oxide. The plants also benefit from southeast exposure and an altitude of about 600 meters above sea level, as well as from the presence of sea breezes blowing from the Mediterranean Sea and significant summer temperature variations. After manual harvesting, the grapes are processed through spontaneous fermentations in stainless steel tanks, the same containers used for the subsequent maturation phase, adopted to offer the purest and most uncontaminated expression of the Etna territory. However, some wines also age in chestnut barrels, a typical tree of the area.

The production of the Monterosso winery includes white, red, and rosé wines with an identity style, all characterized by a vibrant ferrous mineral character. The labels are illustrated with three colors representative of Mount Etna: the black of lava stone, the red of lava, and the white of the snow that covers the volcano during the harsh winters. Furthermore, each bottle features a detailed technical sheet providing all the main information about the wine in question.
