Amaro Eroico Essenza Mediterranea

Essenza Mediterranea Distillery’s Amaro Eroico is produced in Altomonte, in the province of Cosenza, and perfectly captures the character and ancient history of this region. It is a traditional liqueur with ancient origins. At the beginning of the 11th century, a number of monks and hermits who were versed in the ancient art of alchemy arrived in the small village of Altomonte from Sicily and Greece. Thus began a tradition and culture of herbalism and infusions, linked to the practice of preparing natural herbal remedies. From this custom, jealously guarded over the centuries, comes a bitter liqueur with an ancient and legendary flavour, still capable today of captivating with an intense, elegant and harmonious sip.

Amaro Eroico is produced by Essenza Mediterranea using ingredients of the highest quality: Sicilian blood orange (PGI), Sorrento lemon (PGI), Calabrian bergamot, Calabrian mandarin, Calabrian citron, bitter orange, gentian, cinchona, rosemary, oregano, juniper, liquorice root and almond. The aromatic qualities of the citrus fruits, extracted from the essential oils of the peel, blend with the fresh notes of medicinal plants, whilst aromatic herbs and spices complete the bouquet with delicate notes. All the botanicals are processed using traditional methods of cold infusion and maceration in alcohol, so as to preserve the aromas and fragrances intact. Each essence is processed and refined individually. Only at a later stage is the blending carried out to create the elixir, following the tradition of the most ancient recipes of the finest master liqueur makers.

Amaro Eroico, produced by Essenza Mediterranea, has the power to evoke the charm and most characteristic aromas of the Mediterranean. In the glass, it displays a beautiful amber colour with luminous coppery highlights. Intense and elegant, it offers a bouquet characterised by scents of orange peel, mandarin, citron, medicinal herbs, rosemary, gentian and liquorice, along with aromas of ripe citrus fruits and mellow oriental spices, enhanced by balsamic notes of juniper berries. The palate is warm, clear and smooth, with a perfect balance between the citrus notes and the herbal notes of wild herbs. The finish is harmonious, long and persistent, with a pleasantly refreshing aftertaste. Excellent served neat or on the rocks for an after-dinner drink with friends.
