BARBERA D'ALBA TIBALDI 2021 DESCRIPTION

The Tibaldi sisters show off a Barbera d'Alba with a funambulistic attitude, capable of satisfying convivial tables as well as the most sought-after pairings. The identity label that portrays Monica and Daniela contains an interesting interpretation of the territory of Pocapaglia, the charming village of Roero surrounded by dense woods and dominated by the fairytale medieval castle.
The Tibaldi winery makes its Barbera d'Alba by vinifying in purity the grapes from the most easterly parcels of land in Coste Anforiano, in the municipality of Santa Vittoria d'Alba: this is the most southerly part of the Roero, directly overlooking the Tanaro valley. The very steep slopes reach heights of around 200 metres above sea level and have considerable gradients: the landscape is characterised by the peculiar 'rocche', i.e. the clefts carved by the ancient course of the river. The soils are consequently sandy, mixed with clay and sandstone, and the widespread presence of marine fossils leaves no doubt as to their origin. Manual harvesting usually takes place within the first half of October, with sorting of the bunches in the field and picking into small 20 kg crates. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled steel vats with simultaneous maceration on the skins, accompanied by frequent pumping over to favour oxygenation and thus the most complete extraction possible of colour and aromas. The racking operations precede the malolactic fermentation, which is completed in steel. Maturation on the noble lees then continues in the same containers until bottling after a few months.
The Barbera d'Alba of the Tibaldi cellar offers a luminous ruby red colour to the eye, of medium dense concentration. The aromas are expressed in a lively manner and with right harmony, around notes of red fruits and orange peel, sweet ripe plum and earthy hints. The sip is juicy: organised around powerful freshness and a hint of tannic texture, the taste is well-balanced and closes with fine persistence on saline trails of fruity and floral hints.
