Poderi Aldo Conterno Barolo Bussia ‘Cicala’ is a prestigious and complex label that fully reflects the Langhe austerity. The prized Cicala vineyard is one of the three cru plots owned by Poderi Aldo Conterno, located within the extensive MGA of Bussia in Monforte d’Alba and cultivated with Nebbiolo in the Michet and especially Lampia biotypes. The Conterno family’s goal, dedicated to winemaking for five generations, is to offer the most authentic expression of the territory, free from compromises and without seeking unconditional market approval.
The Barolo Bussia ‘Cicala’ by Poderi Aldo Conterno is a Nebbiolo cultivated within the Cicala vineyard on clay-limestone soils rich in calcium carbonate and iron. The vines have an average age of 40-45 years and enjoy exceptional exposure to the south and southwest. Once the grapes have reached perfect ripeness, manual harvesting and careful selection of the bunches are carried out, which are then fermented in stainless steel tanks for alcoholic fermentation accompanied by about 30 days of maceration on the skins. Following several racking, the wine is aged in large Slavonian oak barrels for at least 28 months before final bottling.
In the glass, the ‘Cicala’ Poderi Aldo Conterno Barolo Bussia reveals a bright garnet red color. The olfactory panorama consists of compact and very intense aromas of berries, violet, dried flowers, and licorice, enriched by deep hints of tobacco, leather, and iron. On the palate, it is energetic and powerful, robust and structured, with a solemn impact perfectly balanced by brilliant freshness and noble tannins. Infinite persistence on spicy and mineral sensations consistent with the nose.
