Cotes Catalanes 'Esprit' Domaine De L'Horizon 2021

The Cotes Catalanes ‘Esprit’ Rouge from Domaine de l’Horizon represents an interpretation with a juicy and mineral taste created according to a completely genuine agronomic and enological approach. This Domaine was founded in 2006 by the German winemaker Thomas Teibert, fascinated by the rocky territory of Rossiglione and by the meeting with Gerard Gauby of the iconic Domaine Gauby. In just a few years, the estate has established itself in the winemaking landscape of the region thanks to its interpretations of extraordinary freshness and elegance, almost “pinot-like”, far from the dense and muscular standards of Rossiglione wines. Recently, Thomas entrusted the management of the winery to the young winemaker and his student Emmanuelle Maltas to dedicate himself to new projects.

Domaine de l’Horizon Cotes Catalanes ‘Esprit’ Rouge comes from a blend of traditional varieties Carignan (60%) and Syrah (40%). The vines are aged between 20 and 40 years and are cultivated under biodynamic practices on predominantly limestone and schist soils. After manual harvesting, the grapes are transferred to the winery for whole cluster alcoholic fermentation, entrusted exclusively to indigenous yeasts. Subsequently, the mass ages for 12 months in 500-liter oak tonneaux before the final bottling.

Visually, the Rouge ‘Esprit’ Cotes Catalanes Domaine de l’Horizon expresses a ruby red color with purple hues. The nose opens with intense fruity notes of cherry, strawberry, and blackberry, accompanied by delicate balsamic and spicy nuances. Notes of tobacco, chocolate, and Mediterranean scrub complete the olfactory context. Full and juicy, the taste has excellent freshness and fine tannins that accompany the pleasant savory-mineral tone on the finish.
