Derthona Andrea Tirelli

The Derthona is an intense and complex white wine produced by the Tirelli winery, located in the Colli Tortonesi area, in the province of Alessandria. The winery cultivates Timorasso grapes, an ancient indigenous white grape variety from these regions, rediscovered in the 1980s thanks to the foresight of Walter Massa and now highly appreciated for its aging potential. The vineyards that give rise to this white come from lands characterized by clay-limestone soils at about 300 meters above sea level. The winery is a small property of about 4 hectares of vineyards managed with great care and dedication by Andrea Tirelli, who follows the principles of biodynamic agriculture for the cultivation of the vines.

The Derthona from Tirelli is produced with carefully selected and hand-harvested grapes towards the end of September. The bunches are then destemmed and pressed in the winery and allowed to ferment spontaneously, using exclusively indigenous yeasts, in stainless steel containers with a 6-day maceration on the skins. After that, the wine is separated from the skins and remains in aging. At the end of its maturation period, it is bottled without filtration.

The Derthona by Andrea Tirelli presents itself with a beautiful bright amber color. On the nose, complex aromas of white and yellow fruit appear, including golden apple and pear, citrus and floral notes of orange blossom, acacia flowers, and hawthorn, mineral hints, and a slight touch of wildflower honey. On the palate, it is dense, rich, and fleshy, characterized by a nice sapidity and a pleasant citrus freshness with good persistence. This white from the Andrea Tirelli winery is an expression of the territory, with great character and unmistakable traits, made as it once was with artisanal methods.
