Dolcetto d'Alba Vajra 2024
The Dolcetto d'Alba by Vajra is a fresh and delicate red wine that embodies, with lightness, the spirit of the Piedmontese tradition. It offers clear notes of violets, marasca, and small red fruits. The sip is soft and balanced, agile, slender, and elegant.
The Dolcetto d'Alba from the family-run estate Vajra is characterized as a red wine with a convivial and lively spirit produced in the Langhe, a renowned area of Lower Piemonte. Aldo Vaira, the founder of the winery, was a pioneer of his time as he began applying the principles of organic farming in the vineyards as early as the early '70s. Today he manages the estate together with his wife Milena and their children Giuseppe, Francesca, and Isidoro, in a close-knit family setting driven by a great passion for wine production, which takes place with particular attention to the traditional Langhe grape varieties such as Dolcetto.
Vajra Dolcetto d'Alba is produced with only Dolcetto grapes from various owned vineyards, characterized by an average age of 25-30 years and managed under organic practices. Following the harvest, the bunches are transferred to the winery and subjected to classic red winemaking, with 15-20 days of alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks during which extraction is ensured by daily pump-overs.daily. Also in stainless steel, the complete malolactic fermentation takes place along with several months of maturation that precede bottling and the final market release.
The color of Vajra's Dolcetto d'Alba is an intense purplish red. From the glass emerge vivid fruity aromas of marasca, blackberry, and blueberry, enriched by perceptions of aromatic herbs, underbrush, and pepper. The sip is balanced and smooth, with beautiful freshness and refined tannins that accompany the typically almond-like finish. This Dolcetto has excellent versatility in food-wine pairing, suitable for platters of aged cheeses and cured meats, mushroom risottos, or dishes based on white or red meats.
