Greco 'Pigro delle Sorbe' Collecapretta 2024
ArtisanalThe Greco ‘Pigro delle Sorbe’ from Collecapretta comes from a rare Umbrian planting of Greco, a variety traditionally from Campania. The winemaking is artisanal, with indigenous yeasts and no clarification. On the nose, it releases aromas of exotic fruit, apricot with slight hints of broom and flint. On the palate, it is full and enveloping, vibrant and with persistent sapidity. Ideal for pairing with flavorful Mediterranean dishes, such as spaghetti with clams
The Greco ‘Pigro delle Sorbe’ represents a rare Umbrian interpretation of the Campanian grape variety Greco, the result of the artisanal approach of the Collecapretta winery. Indeed, although the estate managed by the Mattioli family primarily cultivates the most classic varieties of the Spoleto area, where it operates, some hectares are also dedicated to non-traditional grape varieties such as Merlot, Barbera, and, of course, Greco. Collecapretta, which works in respect of environmental health and the authentic expression of the territory, is part of VinNatur, an association that brings together producers who share values such as sustainability and genuineness.
Collecapretta ‘Pigro delle Sorbe’ Greco originates from the homonymous grape variety grown on trellises as per the Umbrian peasant tradition without the use of herbicides, pesticides, and other synthetic chemical products. The rows, which were planted over 40 years ago, are located at an altitude of over 500 meters above sea level on hilly soils predominantly composed of clay. Following the manual harvest the bunches are vinified in fiberglass tanks with the alcoholic fermentation that is entrusted exclusively to the yeasts present on the grapes and in the winery environment. After 8 months of maturation in the same wine containers, the liquid is finally bottled without prior clarification and without the use of additives.
The ‘Pigro delle Sorbe’ Greco from Collecapretta is a brilliant straw yellow color. The nose displays aromas of tropical fruit, apricot, and yellow peach, combined with notes of yellow flowers and slight mineral hints. The full and enveloping body on the palate is well supported by the bright freshness and the pleasant savory note that accompanies the intensely fruity and aromatic finish.
