'Lumeo' Azienda Agricola Toscani 2021
The "Lumeo" from Azienda Agricola Toscani is a red wine based on Syrah with an intense and Mediterranean soul and a warm, enveloping profile. It is vinified in cocciopesto amphorae, where it ages for 12 months. It has aromas of cherries, berries, balsamic herbs, and roots, and has a bold, firm, energetic, fresh, juicy, and persistent taste.
Lumeo is an intense and energetic Tuscan wine, capable of expressing the creative, original and extroverted spirit of its creator, Oliviero Toscani. It comes from a small and prestigious production of pure Syrah, consisting of only 2,000 labeled and hand-numbered bottles. The name comes from the combination of the names of the grandchildren, Luce and Romeo, while the image of the pigeon was chosen by his son Rocco, a breeder and passionate about racing pigeons. Therefore, it is an important bottle, the flagship of the brilliant production signed by Azienda Agricola Toscani.
The red wine Lumeo comes from a rigorous selection of Syrah grapes grown in Monteromboli, in the Maremma Pisana, at an altitude of 300 meters, on iron-rich soils. In the cellar, the work is conducted by Rocco Toscani and the important oenologists Attilio Pagli and Valentino Ciarla. Here, the must ferments slowly on the skins in Tuscan amphorae made of cocciopesto, where the wine remains to refine for about a year. The choice not to use wood but to rely on a neutral container with ancient charm is functional to enhancing the most authentic, intense and pure spirit of Syrah, where in this area it achieves unique and original results.
The Lumeo from Azienda Agricola Toscani has a deep personality, energy and impetuosity: it presents itself in the glass with a ruby red color with purple hues and displays a bouquet of ripe red fruits like cherries and berries that soon shifts to notes of wild spices, balsamic herbs, roots, rhubarb and many red flowers. The authentic strong and wild character of Maremma coexists here with a modern and international elegance, which renounces its Mediterranean origins. The sip is soft, warm, juicy and velvety, of good concentration, supported by an intense freshness and by dense and vibrant tannins. The freshness and tannic structure guarantee good longevity and, in fact, it can evolve positively in the bottle for several years to come
