Maraschino Originale Luxardo - 70cl
The Original Maraschino produced by the Venetian distillery Luxardo still employs today the special formula created in 1821 by Girolamo Luxardo. Marasca cherries, leaves, and other botanicals are infused in alcohol in porous wooden vats for two years; this is followed by copper steam distillation and then the addition of water and sugar syrup. The result is a bold yet harmonious distilled spirit, with good roundness and persistence. It can be used as an ingredient in various cocktails or enjoyed neat as a digestif. It's also perfect on fruit salads, ice cream, or as a syrup for desserts
The Original Maraschino signed by Luxardo is a marasca cherry liqueur rich in history and tradition. This liqueur is still produced according to the ancient recipe of the Luxardo family dated 1821, created in particular by the founder Giacomo Luxardo, who adapted his wife's homemade recipe on a large scale. Like 200 years ago, the iconic elongated green bottle with a red cap wrapped in wicker is still used today, a measure that served to prevent any breakage during transport. Furthermore, the label displays some of the numerous awards won by this liqueur, as well as the wording “Pr. Fabbrica Excelsior”, meaning “Privileged Fabbrica Excelsior”, an honor awarded by the Emperor of Austria to Giacomo Luxardo in 1829, granting him exclusive production of maraschino liqueur for the next 15 years due to the superior quality of his product.
For the preparation of Luxardo Original Maraschino, the fruit of the marasca cherries is used, gently pressed, as well as the leaves and other plant components. Everything is infused in alcohol in porous wooden vats, particularly made of larch wood. The maceration lasts a full 2 years, after which steam distillation is carried out in copper stills using exclusively the heart of the distillate, which is then stored again in vats for aging, this time made of ash wood. The process concludes with the addition of a syrup of water and refined sugar that balances the taste of the liqueur.
Luxardo Original Maraschino has a transparent appearance. On the nose, intense aromas of currant, mint, almond, and, above all, marasca emerge, complemented by peppery tones. The taste is harmonious yet decisive, round and well blended, with persistent sensations of marasca that accompany the finish.
