Domaine Alain Michelot is located in Nuits-Saint-Georges, in the northern part of the Côte d'Or. It is a classic family-run estate that has been cultivating vines in the Côte de Nuits for several generations. The origins of the Domaine date back to 1880 and today it still works according to the oldest traditions of the area, with the sole objective of producing wines capable of expressing the authentic characteristics of the area. The ancient village of Nuits-Saint-Georges has always been one of the most important and famous centres of Burgundy, at the heart of an area considered to be the cradle of the great Pinot Noirs, although there is no lack of Chardonnay vines. The extraordinary quality of the terroir of Nuits-Saint-Georges is confirmed by the presence of 41 Climats classified as Premier Cru.

The origins of the Domaine date back to the 1920s and from the initial nucleus, it has gradually grown thanks to a series of acquisitions of carefully selected plots located in areas of great prestige. Today, at the helm of the estate is Elodie, Alain's daughter, a talented oenologist who has contributed to raising the level of the wines even further, to the point of bringing the domaine into the elite of the best in the area. The estate covers a total surface area of eight hectares, divided into numerous vineyards, located within the communal territories of Nuits-Saint-Georges, Morey-Saint-Denis and Clos Vougeot, with about half of the parcels classified as Premier Cru, capable of supplying grapes of excellent quality.

The vines are cultivated with high planting density and low yields per hectare, in accordance with the best Burgundy practices. The cool, always ventilated climate and the soils composed of limestone-clay marls are particularly suited to the cultivation of Pinot Noir, which in the Nuits-Saint-Georges area expresses an elegant, intense and complex profile. Vinification takes place with a small proportion of whole cluster grapes. Fermentation takes place with about three weeks' maceration on the skins. The wines mature for a period of about 18 months in French Allier and Limousin oak barrels, about a third of which are new.
