William Downie Winery's Pinot Noir 'Bull Swamp' is a handcrafted red wine of great elegance and body, perfect for enjoying a sip from a distant continent. This label is made from manually harvested and selected grapes vinified using only indigenous yeasts and minimal intervention throughout the production process. The intense ruby red colour introduces earthy and fruity aromas while a refined, full and long sip floods the palate

William Downie ‘Bull Swamp’ Pinot Noir represents an entirely Australian interpretation of this noble black grape variety of Burgundian origin that has found the ideal environment to shape crisp and refined wines, like the ‘Bull Swamp’, in the cool climate of the Yarragon area in Victoria. After several years of experience in Burgundy, William Downie decided to return home focusing on that Pinot Noir which he learned to know and work with in the Old Continent, producing bottles of remarkable quality. The English expression “bull swamp” literally means “bull swamp”, the name of the plot from which the grapes for this label come.

The ‘Bull Swamp’ William Downie Pinot Noir is produced with only grapes from the same black grape variety coming from a old vineyard planted in 1881, located at 150 meters above sea level on red volcanic soils. The agronomic management is based on the principles of organic farming. In the cellar, alcoholic fermentation and malolactic fermentation are carried out respectively by indigenous yeasts and lactic acid bacteria and the subsequent aging period takes place in wooden barrels for 13 months.

In the glass, the Pinot Noir ‘Bull Swamp’ from Australian winemaker William Downie displays an intense ruby red hue. The bouquet is rich and broad, defined by crisp aromas of currant, blueberry, and cherry, supported by deep mineral and spicy notes. Elegant and harmonious on the palate, with a soft tannic structure that accompanies juicy freshness, in a very long finish consistent with the sensations of the nose. This is an exceptionally crafted Pinot Noir, comparable to refined and elaborate meat dishes based on duck or rabbit.
