In this unspoiled environmental context, characterized by a cool and very windy climate, Pinot Noir has found the ideal habitat to provide superb varietal and territorial expressions. The Judd family has managed this winery since 2009 with scrupulous attention both in the vineyard and in the cellar, also boasting organic certification.
Greywacke Pinot Noir is produced with only grapes from the homonymous vine grown on loess and clay soils, with abundant gravel presence. The vineyards are composed of a mixture of clones of Pinot Nero from Burgundy and are managed following the principles of certified organic farming. Once the manual harvest is completed, the bunches are left to cool overnight before selection, after which the grapes are largely destemmed and then crushed. The alcoholic fermentation is conducted by only indigenous yeasts.while the subsequent aging period takes place for 11 months in French oak barriques, 30% of which are new.
In appearance, the Greywacke Marlborough Pinot Noir presents itself with a garnet red cloak. A refined olfactory profile painted with perceptions of strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries, with notes of cloves and smoky hints in the background. Rich and balanced on the palate, where the juicy freshness accompanies the firm yet delicate tannic structure. A New Zealand Pinot Noir that fully embodies the characteristics that this noble Burgundy variety takes on in the cool climates of the New World.
