RIESLING MOSEL AUSLESE WEHLENER SONNENUHR DR. LOOSEN 2013 DESCRIPTION

Dr. Loosen's Riesling Mosel Auslese Wehlener Sonnenuhr is a label of absolute excellence among Mosel Rieslings, produced by one of the area's most famous wineries. The label, Auslese, emphasizes the practice of hand-selecting the best bunches so that only perfectly ripe and healthy, high-quality grapes are destined for vinification. It is an intense Riesling, with rich aromas and soft fruit, thanks partly to a slight residual sugar, well balanced by the spherical mineral freshness typical of this extraordinary northern European grape variety. It is a very enjoyable wine to drink immediately, but it will give emotions to those who know how to keep it in the cellar for a few years.

The white Riesling Mosel Auslese Wehlener Sonnenuhr is made from grapes from a particularly fine vineyard on one of the historic Mosel estates. The Dr. Loosen winery is located near Bernkastel, one of the most renowned areas ever for Riesling production. The cool climate and soils consisting of blue slate stones, which store heat during the day and then return it in the cold nights, allow the Riesling grapes to ripen slowly with excellent aromatic richness. The steep slopes of the vineyards, which plunge directly into the Mosel, are a unique natural spectacle and a model of heroic, labour-intensive viticulture. Dr. Loosen wines are a perfect transposition in the glass of the landscape of this particular area, which finds harmony precisely in a kind of synthesis of contrasts due to the difficult soil and climate conditions.

Dr. Loosen's Riesling Mosel Auslese Wehlener Sonnenuhr wine is the result of careful vinification of selected grapes from vines that are over 70 years old. After soft pressing, the flower must ferment in steel tanks, and the wine rests, again in steel, for several months before bottling. In the glass, it is light yellow in colour with brilliant reflections. The bouquet expresses intense and complex aromas, with notes of citrus, peach, yellow fruit, tropical fruit and delicate spices. The sip is harmonious and smooth, with a ripe sweetness of fruit and a sweet sensation well balanced by a savoury and very fresh finish.
