The Schiava "Sofi" by Franz Haas is a light and delicate red wine, elegant and pleasant, vinified only in steel. It has a captivating pale color and inviting aromas of spices and cherries. On the palate it is fresh, immediate, and drinkable, with excellent balance and aromatic cleanliness.
The Schiava “Sofi” by Franz Haas is a fragrant version of one of the most representative wines of Alto Adige. The indigenous grape variety Schiava has been cultivated in the region for centuries and before the white wine revolution, it was the most widespread. It is particularly appreciated for its fine and refined aromas and fragrances, for its light and sociable character. The delicate and low-extraction vinification enhances the personality of Schiava, bringing to the forefront the best varietal notes of fresh fruit. It is an atypical, fresh, and subtle red that pairs very well with local cured meats, tomato-based first courses, poultry, and second courses based on white meats.
The Schiava “Sofi” wine is made by one of the most famous vignerons of Alto Adige. Franz Haas comes from a family that has been cultivating vineyards in the Montagna area for 7 generations. The estate covers over 50 hectares, divided into many parcels located in the most vocated positions of the territory. The grapes come from Schiava vineyards cultivated with the traditional Trentino pergola system, at an altitude of about 400 meters above sea level, on morainic soils rich in gravel. The beautiful exposures facing south and the cool climate, with strong temperature fluctuations, give grapes fine and elegant aromas. At the end of the harvest operations, the bunches are destemmed and sent for fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Before bottling, the wine matures for five months in steel tanks.
The red Schiava “Sofi” is a label from the collection of wines that Franz Haas wanted to dedicate to his daughter. It is a new interpretation of the classic grape varieties of the territory, in a youthful guise, with a fresh and pleasantly simple and immediate taste. In the glass, it presents a light ruby red color, bright and almost transparent. Fruity and exuberant, it expresses aromas of wild strawberries, ripe cherries, red currants, raspberries, and fresh almond. On the palate, it is light and smooth, with a very fine tannic texture and juicy, crunchy fruit, which
