'Tassinaia' Castello del Terriccio 2022
The Tassinaia is a full-bodied and complex red wine, produced with a Bordeaux blend, that is, from Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes and aged in barrel for about 20 months. Hints of berries, spices, and balsamic herbs emerge to the nose. The taste is deep and full-bodied, with great balance and elegant tannins.
The "Tassinaia" from Castello del Terriccio is an intense and structured red wine, produced in Tuscany with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. It is a classic Bordeaux blend aged for a long time in wood, with a sunny, elegant, and Mediterranean profile. The perfect ripening of the grapes gives aromas of small berries, red fruit, hints of Mediterranean scrub herbs, spices, and woody nuances. The taste is rich and complex, mature and very persistent.
The wine "Tassinaia" comes from the desire to produce a great Bordeaux blend in the land of Tuscany. The Tenuta Castello del Terriccio, located in Castellina Marittima, in the province of Pisa, offers excellent pedoclimatic conditions for the cultivation of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The considerable extension of the estate has allowed for the selection and allocation of only the most suitable plots for soil composition and exposure to the vineyard. Areas where the sea reflects sunlight, giving a particularly intense brightness to the vineyards, have been favored. The soils are medium-textured, rich in skeleton and stones, with a strong presence of mineral elements, particularly iron and copper. The vineyards are located at an altitude of 100 meters above sea level with a south and southwest exposure and are trained to a spurred cordon. The harvests and vinifications take place separately, following the different ripening times of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The fermentations occur at controlled temperatures with 2 to 3 weeks of maceration on the skins. The wines mature in French Allier oak barriques, partly second-use, for about 14-16 months, then they are blended and bottled. The aging in the cellar before being released on the market is 12 months.
Despite being produced with international grapes, "Tassinaia" Castello del Terriccio retains the characteristic face of the wines from the Tuscan inland coast. The proximity to the sea and the influence of its gentle breezes on the warm and sunny climate, as well as the particular composition of the soils, contribute to giving a strong territorial mark to the wine. The color is a very intense ruby red. The olfactory profile is characterized by aromas of small dark berries, sour cherry, light notes of jam, soft spices, vanilla, memories of wood, and wild herbs from the Mediterranean scrub. The structure is significant, with elegant and evolved tannic texture, complex and rich aromas, of great expressive maturity, leading to a persistent and balanced finish.
