Vin Santo del Chianti made by the well-known Tuscan winery Fontodi is a sweet, tasty and precious wine perfect for a special gift or to celebrate unique moments. This label is made from a blend of Malvasia and Sangiovese grapes dried for 5 months and aged in French chestnut barrels for 9 years. The amber colour with golden hues accompanies intense aromas of candied fruit, dates and precious woods. The taste is dense, enveloping, soft, involving and of eternal length

The Vin Santo del Chianti Classico by Fontodi is a prestigious and seductive dessert wine capable of transporting the senses on a true hedonistic journey. The Tuscan winery Fontodi, located in Panzano in Chianti, has significantly contributed to the enhancement of the Chianti region, and its Vin Santo del Chianti Classico reflects all the uniqueness of this historic and precious passito. Regarding the etymology of the name, there are numerous versions, one of which dates back to the 14th century when the Black Death ravaged Europe, and a Franciscan friar decided to use this nectar to cure the plague victims, hence the appellation "saint". Another hypothesis alludes to a council held in Florence in the 15th century during which a Greek bishop tasted this passito exclaiming "it is wine of Xantos!" The rest of the bishops interpreted the phrase as "it is holy wine", even though with "Xantos" he was referring to the homonymous Hellenic locality.

Fontodi Vin Santo del Chianti Classico is a blend of Malvasia and Sangiovesefrom various owned vineyards. The grapes are harvested and then placed to dry in a fruit drying room for 5 months, during which they dehydrate, concentrating sugars and aromas. Once the drying process is completed, the grapes are pressed, and the resulting must is placed in chestnut and French oak barrels of 50 and 110 liters containing the lees of the previous vin santo (called mother), which serves as a fermentative inoculum. The small barrels are then immediately sealed and not touched for a full 9 years, when finally the opening and subsequent bottling takes place.

The Vin Santo del Chianti Classico Fontodi is amber with golden reflections. Intense and articulated nose played on notes of dates, candied fruit, and honey, combined with boisé sensations. Soft, full, and dense on the palate, with a harmonious and endless sweet finish. The recommendation is to enjoy this sweet wine alone at the end of a meal or paired with savory blue cheeses.
