The Wine Box Lugana will introduce you to the mild climate of Lake Garda, its fertile soils rich in clay, limestone and mineral salts: the elective cradle of the 'Lord of the Great Lake', Lugana. A journey through famous labels and producers, to discover a unique denomination and the fascination of one of the best-loved Italian white wines!
The Wine Box Lugana is a magnificent opportunity to taste some labels of a great white wine, which originates on the shores of Lake Garda. It is a wine that, when young, is appreciated especially for its fresh, fragrant, and fruity profile, but it also possesses an excellent aging potential with interesting tertiary evolutions on notes of flint and hydrocarbons. Therefore, do not rush to taste all the bottles quickly; you can calmly leave some in the cellar for a few years, and you will be rewarded with a high-level tasting experience. Lugana pairs very well with first courses based on fish and, more generally, with seafood cuisine.
The production area embraces the southern shore of the wide basin of Lake Garda. From a geological point of view, the area is of ancient morainic origin and was generated by the retreat of a large alpine glacier, which left sands, gravels, and pebbles that still form a wide hilly strip today. The area closest to the lake, on the other hand, was covered by a marshy forest, which was
drained starting from the 15th century by the Republic of Venice. The lands were thus destined for agriculture and soon proved to be very suitable for viticulture. These are soils created from lake sedimentations of clayey nature, very rich in salts and mineral elements. The climate is particularly mild, thanks to the presence of the lake, which gives almost Mediterranean nuances. In this context, the white grape variety Turbiana has adapted very well, which from a genetic point of view is a local biotype of Trebbiano di Soave and Verdicchio. A grape of great value that produces wines of remarkable elegance and aromatic intensity.
