Castello di Cacchiano

Castello di Cacchiano winery is located in the municipality of Gaiole in Chianti, on top of a gently deep sea in the heart of the green hills of Chianti. Castello di Cacchiano was founded in 1947 at the behest of Elisabetta dei Conti Baldi Velier, widow of Baron Alberto Ricasoli-Firidolfi and the mother of Giovanni, the current owner of the estate.

The castle, owned by the Florentine family Ricasoli-Firidolfi since the year 1000, has kept the function of the fortress, together with the nearby Castle of Brolio, in defense of the city of Florence; It was destroyed twice, in 1478 and in 1530, by the Aragonese Carlo V, but always rebuilt, expanded and fortified.

Towards the middle of the sixteenth century it became gradually in villa-farm accentuating its agriculture with the cultivation of vineyards and olive groves. Today the estate covers an area of 200 hectares, 32 of which are vineyards and the remaining for the oil production. The winery, in the core of the castle, has ancient origins: in fact, the part for winemaking dates back to the seventeenth century and the wine cellar for the aging, dates back to the Renaissance.

Inside the castle, there is an agritourism, where, besides the typical Tuscan dishes, you can taste the wines of the winery, including emerging, real workhorse of the company, the Chianti Classico, in its traditional assembly Sangiovese (96%), Canaiolo, Colorina and Malvasia Nera, as established in the nineteenth century, the product specification wanted by Baron Bettino Ricasoli, ancestor of Giovanni Ricasoli- Firidolfi.
