Domaine de Fontenille

Historic winemaking reality in the Luberon
Region Valle del Rodano (Francia)
Foundation Year XVII secolo
Vineyard hectares 39
Address Rte de Roquefraiche, 84360 Lauris, Francia

Located in the southeastern Rhone wine region of southern France, Domaine de Fontenille has been cultivating vineyards continuously since 1637. We are exactly in the Durance plain, on the southern slope of the Luberon massif, where this winery, among the oldest in the area, embraces a sustainable production spirit while respecting the natural cycles of the plants. The estate has retained its charming original appearance, while the recently renovated winery combines traditional-style architecture with state-of-the-art techniques and equipment. In 2013, half of the vineyards were renovated and conversion to organic farming began, with certification coming a few years later.

Domaine de Fontenille has 39 hectares of rows planted on clay-limestone soils characterized by an abundance of stones. The climate, a Mediterranean type, benefits from the presence of the Mistral wind that keeps the clusters dry, avoiding moisture stagnation and therefore high risks of fungal attacks. In this pedoclimatic context, the estate follows the principles of certified organic farming by raising local varieties such as Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, Mourvedre, Grenache Blanc, Rolle, Clairette and Marsanne. The processing of the masses takes place in different types of wine containers, which include round concrete tanks placed in a semicircle, stainless steel tanks and wooden barrels.

Domaine de Fontanilles is the creator of a consistent production that remains faithful to the terroir. Labels include white, rosé and red wines, all distinguished by an excellent quality/convenience ratio. The estate is also dedicated to the production of honeys, various jams and olive oil and, in addition, includes a luxurious hotel and restaurant that can boast the coveted Michelin star.
