'A Pel Negre' Loxarel 2021
Artisanal
Organic and biodynamicLoxarel’s "A Pel Negre" is a red wine that fully represents the reality in which the winery operates. It is produced with grapes harvested around the winery and towards the hinterland, then processed with artisanal care: a true overview of High Penedes, interpreted according to the principles of biodynamics. The nose reveals hints of red fruits at first, then intriguing notes of roasting, such as hazelnut and almond. In the mouth it is fresh, aromatic and persistent with fine, gentle tannins that recall ripe fruits. Ideal with meat, to try with chicken 'a la catalana'
“A Pel Negre” is one of the interpretations of Loxarel, a true “black” expression of the territories on which the estates extend. The local Garnacha and the international Merlot give life to an intense and fragrant red, complex and juicy: a realization that pursues a well-defined company philosophy, made of hard natural work in the vineyard and no chemical manipulation in the cellar, without the use of sulfur.
Loxarel produces “A Pel Negre” by vinifying the varieties that come from the two respective parcels, in rather different areas from each other. The Garnacha is the daughter of a vineyard located at an altitude of 500 meters above sea level: the Pla de Manlleu is a rocky massif, with clayey soils, rising about thirty kilometers north of the Mediterranean coast, from which it receives influences. The Merlot, on the other hand, comes from the Can Mayol plot, east of the Pla hills and on the limestone plateau that extends to about 250 meters in altitude. The management follows the rules of biodynamic agriculture, using preparations throughout the year, while the cover crop is kept under control through the grazing of sheep flocks, which also provide direct organic fertilization. The harvest is done manually and the cellar phases involve the direct and gentle pressing of the grapes, with spontaneous fermentation in wooden barrels by the only indigenous yeasts. The aging is carried out in 500-liter oak barrels for 3 months and the same time in 720-liter terracotta amphorae, while bottling is done without filtration or other invasive practices.
“A Pel Negre” by Loxarel appears to the eye as a dark cherry red, with a very dense appearance. The impact on the nose is distinctly varietal, with beautiful spicy notes and a fresh fruitiness that gradually becomes deeper and darker, shifting towards dehydrated fruit and hints of toasted almond and hazelnuts. The sip is composed of freshness and intensity, marked by present but finely crafted tannins and with references to a fruity softness,
