Roccolo Grassi's Amarone della Valpoliccella is a true liquid emblem of smoothness and elegance, as well as one of the most representative expressions of one of Italy's excellent wines. Power, richness, and concentration are the weapons at the disposal of Amarone, although in the case of the Roccolo Grassi winery, all this is pursued without forcing, achieving an admirable balance between structure and finesse. A relatively young winery, founded in 1996 in Mezzane di Sotto, which has been able to enhance an area with a vocation for viticulture, producing more and more convincing and exciting bottles every year. The philosophy is to produce wines with a long-range, able to evolve and mature over time while not renouncing immediate enjoyability, and to privilege the qualitative aspect of production by churning out few bottles but of the highest level.
Roccolo Grassi's Amarone wine comes from the area's classic blend of Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and a small addition of Croatina. The vines used to produce Amarone are located in a single vineyard called Roccolo Grassi, and for the production of this nectar, only the oldest plants that are over 40 years old are used. After the harvest, the drying of the grapes takes place, naturally and sometimes with the help of fans, after which the pressing follows. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, and after malolactic fermentation is carried out in wood, the liquid refines in a barrique for 26 months and for another 24 months in the bottle.
Amarone Roccolo Grassi immediately captivates with its impenetrable ruby colour that hints at the richness of the liquid. The nose literally overwhelms those who smell it with a whirlwind of ripe plums, cherries in alcohol, chocolate and wafers. A veritable ode to gluttony that cannot help but entice one to taste it. The sip is pure silk, powerful and velvety by virtue of very sweet tannins and important but perfectly managed matter.
