Nizza Riserva Olim Bauda 2020
Perfect to give as a gift"Nizza" is a Barbera d'Asti from the Olim Bauda line, vinified in steel and aged for 30 months in French oak barrels. The olfactory identity card states red fruit and sweet spices and anticipates a decisive and balanced tasting, with a remarkable taste-olfactory correspondence.
The Nizza Olim Bauda is a Barbera d'Asti of particular value, which enhances the predisposition of this traditional Piedmontese grape variety to also produce wines for long aging, capable of expressing complex, rich, harmonious, and evolved aromas. The aging period in the barrel tends to tame the exuberant freshness typical of young Barbera, giving the wine a softer and more balanced face, with aromas of ripe cherry, red fruit, and pleasant spicy notes. It is a particular interpretation of Barbera, appreciated at the table with the rich and flavorful typical dishes of Piedmontese cuisine, especially with roasted red meats.
The Barbera Nizza Olim Bauda comes from a company in the Asti area that has been dedicated to viticulture in the Incisa Scapaccino area for many generations. The Olim Bauda estate extends over about thirty hectares, all cultivated in the splendid hilly territory of Nizza Monferrato. This is one of the most vocated areas for Barbera, a grape variety that has always been part of the Piedmontese popular tradition. Its fresh and immediate, has led this ancient wine to be almost always interpreted as an everyday red and easy to drink. However, careful work in the vineyard to contain yields, the choice of the best plots, have allowed to highlight the more mature face of Barbera, which, ennobled by long aging in wood, shows remarkable expressive potential and possesses the personality of a great red.
The red Nizza Olim Bauda is produced with the best bunches hand-selected during the harvest. At the end of the pressing, the must ferments on the skins in stainless steel tanks. The maturation takes place in French oak barrels for about 30 months, followed by an additional aging period in the bottle before being put on the market. In the glass, it has a dark and intense purple-red color. On the nose, it opens with aromas of ripe cherry, marasca, red fruit, spicy hints, and nuances of aromatic herbs. The taste is full and rich, with ripe and expressive fruit and a fine and evolved tannic texture. The finish is pleasantly spicy, long and persistent.
