Cabernet Franc I Mandorli 2022
The Cabernet Franc from the I Mandorli winery is a red wine with an international cut but the soul belonging to its homeland: Tuscany. This label is made with spontaneous fermentations using only indigenous yeasts and a long aging of 12 months in wood, 6 months in vitrified cement, and finally 8 months in bottle. The color is intense ruby red, and on the nose, notes of red berry fruit, spices, and Mediterranean hints emerge. The taste is decisive, broad, complex, warm, with a long and balanced finish.
The Cabernet Franc from the I Mandorli winery is an enterprising and authentic Tuscan version of this international grape variety. In Suvereto, between the wild Maremma and the groomed Bolgheri, stands a bastion of artisan wine, which began its journey in 2002 and continues thanks to Maddalena Pasquetti. The I Mandorli winery is surrounded by Mediterranean scrub, where at 300 meters above sea level, the steep rows of Cabernet Franc gaze out towards the island of Elba. The watercolors on the label originate from the hands of Chiara and reflect, in their poetry and delicacy, these proud wines dedicated to the vitality of the land.
I Mandorli Cabernet Franc is a fine expression of the homonymous grapes, located on clay soils rich in schist, marl, sandstone, and rock. In the vineyard, they practice biodynamic agriculture, using natural preparations and also propolis, horsetail, copper, and sulfur, depending on the vintage. They have recently started experimenting with a homeodynamic approach on a plot, excluding copper and sulfur but implementing homeopathic preparations. To promote biodiversity, spontaneous cover cropping with alternating rows of clover, barley, and vetch is also practiced.of clover, barley, and vetch. Fermentation is spontaneous, occurring in open tubs and partially in tanks, with skin maceration for about a month. After resting in barrels, it follows 6 months in vitrified concrete and a year in bottle.
The Cabernet Franc from I Mandorli, known as Franky, reveals an intense ruby red to the eye. The spice notes are accompanied by hints of red berry fruit and a typical vegetal nuance of bell pepper, on a pleasantly savory background. On the palate, it appears lively, vibrant, and without superstructures, with some rustic and mineral notes. The taste is bold and complex with a long-lasting finish.
