The Pietradolce winery produces this Etna Rosso “Barbagalli” from Nerello Mascalese grapes grown in bush vines; these are pre-phylloxera vineyards characterized by a sandy subsoil rich in skeleton, whose vines have an average age ranging from 80 to 100 years. After harvest, the wine macerates in contact with the skins for about 18 days and is gently pressed; then it moves on to the aging phase, carried out for 20 months in French oak tonneaux, and to bottling.
The “Barbagalli” is an Etna Rosso that reveals itself in the glass with a ruby color, with a slight garnet reflection at the rim. The array of aromas that develop on the nose is complex and layered, composed of notes that, from tobacco and sweet spices, shift towards hints of fruit in spirit. On the palate, it is captivating, with a medium-bodied sip that unfolds on a finely integrated tannic structure, supported by a fresh, vibrant vein.
