White 'Gorgona' Frescobaldi 2024

The Gorgona Bianco by Frescobaldi is a unique label in the panorama of Italian wine. It is born from a project resulting from the collaboration between the Frescobaldi family and the Gorgona Penal Institute. The smallest island of the Tuscan archipelago has been an open-air penal colony since 1869, and the inmates engage in various activities, including viticulture. The cuvée is the result of a blend of Vermentino and Ansonica, the two grape varieties typical of the coast and the Tuscan archipelago. A sunny and rich wine, fragrant and fruity, that perfectly expresses the Mediterranean character of the terroir.

The Gorgona Bianco is produced by a historic name in Italian enology. For centuries, the Frescobaldi family has cultivated vineyards and produced wine in the heart of Tuscany, a region where they own several estates in areas of particular value. The social project of Gorgona came to light in 2011, and since that year, the Frescobaldi enologists have also offered their consultancy for vineyard work and winemaking in Gorgona. The inmates learn skills that they can later

use in their working life once they have completed their sentence. The Ansonica and Vermentino vineyards are cultivated in organic farming regimes on terraces, characterized by poor and stony soils. The warm and dry climate, always ventilated, is very suitable for the vine. At the end of the harvest, the grapes are gently pressed, and the must ferments in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature. The wine matures in terracotta jars to preserve the primary aromas of the grapes.

The Gorgona Bianco wine from the Frescobaldi brand is the synthesis of a work in the world of wine that has responsibly embraced ethical and social aspects, enriching this bottle with important values. Visually, it presents a light yellow color with slight golden reflections. The olfactory profile recalls ripe yellow fruit, citrus, and the nuances of herbs from the Mediterranean scrub, thyme, rosemary, and helichrysum. Soft and harmonious on the palate, it highlights a juicy and intense fruit that unfolds into a savory and persistent finish.
