Artisanal
Callmewine's FavouritesThe Morgon "Cote du Py" by Jean Foillard is an elegant and refined French red wine made from Gamay grapes, coming from the slopes of Py, an extinct volcano considered one of the most promising crus of the region. It precisely expresses a mineral bouquet with notes of rhubarb, blackberry, pepper, and cinnamon, wrapped in a caressing and silky sip, vibrant and deep, with persistent echoes of licorice. A must for enthusiasts.
The Morgon “Cote du Py” has the typical characteristics of Gamay, with a bright ruby red but rather pale. An assertive nose, of wild strawberries, incense, blood orange, cola, and rhubarb. An uncontrollable explosion that gives way to a subsequent composure of a true champion. The sip is full, on the fruit, a caressing velvet. Never rhetorical, it always perfectly balances substance and saline push, along with a refreshing liveliness that supports it. A formative bottle, which is impossible to give up.
Py, which is an ancient volcano now extinct. No use of chemicals in the vineyard, neither now nor before, and many harvests have passed. In the cellar, spontaneous fermentations and semi-carbonic maceration, as has always been the case in Beaujolais. The liquid ages for 12 months in used oak barrels, and is only added a small amount of sulfur before bottling. The Morgon “Cote du Py” has the typical characteristics of Gamay, with a bright ruby red but rather pale.
