Mossone' Santa Barbara 2022
Perfect to give as a giftThe "Mossone" from Santa Barbara is a red wine made from Merlot grapes dedicated to the founder of the winery, Stefano Antonucci, nicknamed 'Mossi'. This red ages in barriques for a year and offers a wide and intense bouquet, rich in aromas of marasca cherry and blackberry, licorice, mushrooms, Mediterranean scrub, and vegetal notes. On the palate, it is dense, concrete, and noble tannin, supported by freshness and a long savory persistence.
"Mossone" by Santa Barbara is a pure Merlot produced in the Marche region. It is a prestigious label, dedicated to the winery's founder Stefano Antonucci. It was born from the desire to pay homage to one of the most cultivated international grape varieties in the world, which in the hilly area overlooking the Adriatic Sea produces grapes of great balance and harmony. The wine offers the emotion of a great Merlot, aromatically rich and mature, elegant and pleasantly fresh. The long aging in barrique enhances its evolutionary qualities, enriching it with refined tertiary notes.
The "Mossone" wine is the result of Stefano Antonucci's constant commitment to producing high-quality wines, both by enhancing native grape varieties like Verdicchio and Montepulciano, and by experimenting with the most famous international varieties. The Santa Barbara estate has vineyards scattered in various locations: Arcevia, Montecarotto, Serra de' Conti, and Barbara, covering a total of 25 hectares, with an additional 15 hectares rented. The hilly area extends at an altitude of about 250 meters and benefits from a Mediterranean climate, always tempered by sea breezes. The soils are quite mixed in composition, with a prevalence of clay-limestone areas and gravel. The Merlot vines face northeast and after the harvest, the grapes are fermented in steel. The wine rests for 18 months in new barriques of medium toast.
"Mossone" by Santa Barbara is a beautiful interpretation of Merlot in the Marche region, which especially highlights the wine's fruity notes and fresh profile. In the glass, it has an intense and bright ruby red color. The bouquet releases aromas of morello cherry, blackberry, cherry, red fruit, hints of underbrush, aromatic herbs of the Mediterranean scrub, licorice, and balsamic notes. The sip is of great harmony, with a fragrant and elegant fruit and a fine tannic texture. The finish is fresh, long, and persistent, with a pleasant savory closure.
