The Rosso “CS" is born in the Etna estate of Frank Cornellissen, which extends for about 19 hectares in the locality of Solicchiata, in the municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia. It is on the northern slope of the volcano that the famous winemaker decided to embark on a personal journey, with the aim of enhancing the individual crus. The vineyards are located at an altitude between 650 and 980 meters above sea level and can benefit from a sunny but cool and ventilated climate, with significant temperature swings between day and night. Its wines are a true and sincere expression of the best varietal characteristics of Nerello Mascalese and the soils composed of the disintegration of lava material from the eruptions of Mongibello. Thus, prestigious labels are born, rich in personality and still crafted with artisanal passion.
The “CS" Rosso Munjebel is a wine that directly expresses the combination of Nerello Mascalese and the volcanic soils of Etna. The vines over 80 years old are cultivated in the Chiusa Spagnola cru in Contrada Zottorino, at about 620 meters altitude. Fermentation takes place spontaneously with indigenous yeasts and the maceration on the skins lasts about 60 days. The wine matures in large fiberglass tanks for a few months before being bottled. The choice not to use wood brings to the forefront the expressive clarity and distinctive character of the grape variety and terroir. In the glass, it presents a light ruby red color, with slight garnet hues. The bouquet offers aromas of raspberry, wild strawberries, red berry fruits, black fruits, spicy notes, and wild herbs from the Mediterranean scrub. The sip is long and deep, tense and energetic, with lively tannins and a pleasant finish on mineral tones.
