Perricone 'Regnante' Rallo 2024
Unusual grapes
Organic and biodynamicThe Perricone 'Regnante' from the Rallo winery is a rich and enveloping red wine, a child of the Alcamese territory. The name is a tribute to the eagle that, as a good ruler, flies over the hills of the Pattipiccolo estate. On the nose, it expresses notes of red fruits, plum and cherry in spirit, embraced by slight spicy nuances of juniper and black pepper, while on the palate it is wide and structured, balanced by a dense and soft tannic texture that supports the sip in a long persistent finish. Ideal paired with red meats and aged cheeses
The Perricone "Regnante" from the Rallo winery is a red that faithfully interprets the tradition of the territory and its typical red grape variety. Vinified in purity, it is made with a calibrated aging in wood that softens its tannins, without altering its characteristic aromatic spectrum fruity and spicy. A red absolutely worth discovering, which, thanks to the work of local producers, is gaining more and more space in the landscape of Sicilian wines. It is ideal to taste with first courses with savory ragù, grilled meat, or with small game on the spit.
The "Regnante" is the fruit of one of the historic wineries of western Sicily. The origins of the Rallo estate date back to the mid-nineteenth century when it was famous for the production of Marsala. Today it is managed by the Vesco family, who run the vineyards under organic farming and produce territorial wines with the main native Sicilian grape varieties. The Perricone vineyards are about ten years old and are located in Patti Piccolo, within the municipality of Alcamo. They are cultivated at an altitude of 200 meters above sea level, with a south-southeast exposure, on predominantly sandy soils. Manual harvesting takes place during the month of September, and the healthiest and ripest bunches are sent for fermentation in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 22-24 °C, with maceration on the skins for two or three weeks, depending on the characteristics of the vintage. Before bottling, the wine ages for a few months in French oak barrels.
The red Perricone "Regnante," made by the Rallo winery, is the perfect bottle to approach and understand the typical characteristics of this ancient native grape variety of western Sicily, once primarily used to produce Marsala Rosso. In the glass, it presents a dark ruby red color with slight purple reflections. Fragrant and intense, it reveals itself to the nose with aromas of small berries, currant, blueberry, sour cherry, hints of soft spices, of herbs of the aromatic herbs of the Mediterranean scrub and licorice root. With good structure and aromatic persistence, it has a lively tannic texture and ripe, rich fruit. The finish is of good length and freshness.
