The Pinot Noir from Cloudy Bay represents with great precision the style of the winery and the quality of its products. It is seductive, fine, and elegant. It identifies not only the signature of Cloudy Bay but also a territorial imprint. It comes from a magical land, wonderfully wild and rich in charm. We are in New Zealand, in Marlborough. It is the result of an embrace between the land and the sea, protected from the sun and the wind. It is a silky, graceful, and ultimately intriguing Pinot Noir.
Cloudy Bay Pinot Noir comes from a meticulous parcel selection, carried out among the vineyards in the southern areas of the Wairau Valley, including the Mustang and Barracks vineyards. The clayey and silty subsoil serves as a base for a gravelly surface layer, which defines the soils of these areas. Harvest generally takes place between the end of March and the beginning of April. The grapes are carefully selected and strictly hand-picked. Once transported to the winery, most of the bunches are completely destemmed, while 13% of them are sent for vinification still equipped with the green components. This is followed by the start of alcoholic fermentation through the action of indigenous yeasts naturally present on the skins; the maceration lasts on average around 18 days. The aging takes place inside French oak barrels, 35% new, for about 12 months.
The red Pinot Noir from Cloudy Bay is characterized by a bright ruby red color in the glass. The aroma recalls red fruit, cherry, violet, and sweet spices. It enters the mouth combining verticality and softness, in a body of good structure focused on red fruit. It finishes with a graceful memory of spices. It is an elegant tasting of Pinot Noir from overseas.
