It stands out for its balance and elegance in the wine scene of Salento, with its unmistakable notes of dog rose, small red fruits, sour cherries and wild herbs. On the palate, it is fresh, savory, rich and harmonious
The Rosato “Five Roses Anniversario” is the iconic wine of the historic Apulian winery Leone De Castris produced here in the anniversary version, first marketed back in '93 to commemorate the fifty years since its production began. This label, which was one of the first Italian rosé bottles to gain recognition worldwide, is an expression of great elegance and refinement and is obtained from a blend of Negramaro and Malvasia Nera grapes from Lecce in small percentage. The vines, which have an average age of about 50 years, are trained as bush vines and are cultivated with great care and attention on soils characterized by a mix of clay and silt. The winery, located in the municipality of Salice Salentino not far from the wonderful Lecce, has a very ancient history dating back to the mid-seventeenth century.
The “Five Roses Anniversario” is a cru of the best grapes, which are carefully selected for the production of this exclusive version. The best bunches, usually harvested around the second of August are then brought to the winery for destemming and for a short cold maceration, at a temperature between 7 and 10 °C, which allows the extraction of aromatic properties and color contained in the skins. We then proceed to the first pressing from which the free-run must is obtained and to the alcoholic fermentation of the latter in temperature-controlled stainless steel containers for a few weeks. The wine is then aged in steel for about a month after which it is bottled and remains another month to age in the bottle before being sold.
The “Five Roses Anniversario” Rosato by Leone De Castris presents itself with a bright cerasuolo pink color, with aromas of berries and red fruit, including cherry, blueberry, and currant, floral notes of rose and elderflower, and light iodine mineral nuances. On the palate, it is very balanced, with a full and rich flavor that leans towards fruit and is excellently balanced by great freshness. This label from the Leone De Castris winery is a nice way
