Rosso 'Palistorti' Tenuta di Valgiano 2022
Artisanal
Callmewine's Favourites"Palistorti" by Tenuta di Valgiano is a red wine aged 12 months in concrete vats and second-hand barrique. Elegant to the nose, with scents of undergrowth and small red fruits, from mineral tips, tobacco and licorice. Concentrated on the palate, from the fresh waves, with fine tannins and persistent.
The "Palistorti" from Tenuta di Valgiano is a Tuscan red produced in the hilly area northeast of the city of Lucca. It represents one of the most interesting and successful expressions of this territory. The wine is made from a predominant base of Sangiovese, to which a small percentage of Merlot is added, providing a fruity softness and a touch of Syrah, which gives a delicate spiciness. It is the youngest label of the Estate, which, thanks to a partial aging in used woods, preserves and highlights especially the varietal aromas of the grapes in their exuberant fragrance.
The Rosso "Palistorti" is produced by one of the reference companies in the Lucca area. Founded in the early '90s, Tenuta di Valgiano has gained attention from enthusiasts thanks to high-quality production with a strong territorial imprint. The 20 hectares of vineyard are located in a hilly area, about 250 meters above sea level, on soils predominantly composed of limestone marls, sandstones, and alberese. The splendid and sunny exposure at noon and the presence of good temperature excursions ensure perfect ripening of the grapes with particularly rich aromatic profiles. The agronomic management of the vineyards is inspired by the principles of biodynamics and in the cellar, efforts are made to maintain the richness and varietal identity of the grapes, trying to intervene as little as possible. This gives rise to straightforward wines, with a recognizable character and territorial personality.
The wine "Palistorti", produced by Tenuta di Valgiano, is a red that is still made following a craftsmanship style. At the end of the harvest, the grapes are hand-selected on the sorting table. The crushing is done by foot in wooden vats and fermentation takes place spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in oak barrels. The wine matures for 12 months, 40% in cement and 60% in used French oak barriques. It presents a bright and intense ruby red color. On the nose, it expresses aromas of cherry, small dark berry fruits, shady hints of underbrush, nuances of licorice root and spices. The sip is smooth and harmonious, with ripe fruit, a fine tannic texture, a fresh and savory finish with good taste persistence.
