Rosso Piceno Superiore Clara Marcelli 2021
Artisanal
Organic and biodynamicThe Rosso Piceno Superiore by Clara Marcelli is a typically Marchigiano red, produced in the gentle hills of Piceno at over 200 meters above sea level. The fruity and fresh organoleptic profile, with red fruits, cherry jam, and hay in evidence, the sip is crisp, rich, and dry, with a nice tannin that invigorates the mid-palate.
The Rosso Piceno Superiore from the Clara Marcelli winery is a red wine with good body and structure produced in Castorano, in the province of Ascoli Piceno, in the Marche region. This label is made from a blend of predominantly Montepulciano grapes and Sangiovese, sourced from vineyards located about 280 meters above sea level on gentle hills that benefit from an excellent microclimate due to both the proximity to the Adriatic Sea, which mitigates the climate with its breezes, and the Apennines, which protect from the strong disturbances coming from the north. The vineyards are trained using the Guyot and spurred cordon methods on soils characterized by clay-rich land. The winery, now managed by the Coletta brothers, owns 35 hectares, of which about 14 are cultivated in accordance with the principles of organic farming, aiming to enhance the typical grape varieties of the area.
The Piceno Rosso is produced from hand-harvested grapes, generally between the second half of September and the beginning of October, after careful analysis of ripeness and selection. The bunches are then destemmed and crushed in the winery, and the must is fermented using exclusively indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel containers. At the end of fermentation, the wine is racked and the skins are pressed, after which the wine is aged for several months in wooden barrels and in bottle before being sold.
The Rosso Piceno Superiore by Clara Marcelli presents itself with a ruby red color with slight garnet streaks. On the nose, intense aromas of red berry fruits and wild berries emerge, including cherry, wild strawberry, and blackberry, floral notes of dried flowers and hay, leading to spicy hints of pepper and licorice. On the palate, it is rich, warm, and clear, with a beautiful freshness and a present and well-calibrated tannin that invigorates the sip. This label is a red made as it once was, pleasant and sincere expression of the hills of Piceno.
